BRC-4 Cone Weave.

A two-hour, first-touch experience with a motorcycle, not designed to teach actual riding skills. Focused on reviewing a motorcycle’s primary parts and controls, it helps you determine whether motorcycling is a good personal choice. You are given the option to manipulate the controls while astride a motorcycle. A self-assessment component ensures you are of aware of the risks and requirements for being a good, safe and responsible rider.

Safe Motorcyclist Awareness & Recognition Trainer

This motorcycle simulator allows riders the chance to put their skills to the test in a virtual environment with a video monitor, seat, handlebars and all the standard motorcycle controls. Choose from a range of scenarios to test your skills and receive a performance review from a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF)-certified RiderCoach.

Course Description

This course is designed for beginning riders ages 15 and older, and those riders who need a refresher on the basic fundamentals of riding. We supply the bikes, you supply the desire. Whether you’re new to the riding scene or have been riding for years without formal training, this course is for you. The age range of students trained in this course last year was 16 to 67! Several of our students have a motorcycle endorsement on their license but never actually took any training. These students who were “grandfathered in” find this course invaluable in developing good riding skills and preparing themselves mentally to ride.

This is a demanding course. Basic skills are learned first and then after these have been mastered, the students move onto advanced techniques. If a student cannot master the basic skills in the short time they have to learn them, they may be asked to voluntarily remove themselves from the course, practice what they’ve learned thus far, and come back for another course in the future. Students should be in good health before considering to take this course.

The main objectives of this course are:

  • Develop a safe, responsible motorcyclist
  • Develop the mental skills for safe motorcycling
  • Develop the physical skills for safer motorcycling
  • Create an understanding of risk awareness and risk taking
  • Develop a strategy to manage risk

We start by teaching the four basic riding skills:

  • straight line riding
  • stopping
  • turning
  • shifting

After establishing a proper foundation of basic skills, students learn advanced riding techniques and strategies to manage the risks involved with riding.

The BRC is a 20 hour course given over a weekend. It includes 8 hours of classroom work and 12 hours of riding instruction on the range.

We give the written and riding tests required by the state to receive a motorcycle endorsement. No further testing is required upon successful completion of our BRC class.

The course costs $250.00*, but remember, we supply the motorcycles and all classroom materials. If you need to borrow a helmet, we have a good selection to choose from. Course tuition non-refundable without 7 days notice.

3 Wheel Basic RiderCourse  (3WBRC)

Course Description:

S.M.A.R.T., Inc. is the best place to start once you’ve made the decision to ride a 3-wheel motorcycle, whether the two wheels are in the back or the front. This weekend course consists of 6-8 hours of classroom activities and 12 to 14 hours of on-cycle riding exercises beginning on a Friday night and ending Sunday afternoon.  Successful completion of this Motorcycle Safety Foundation training will waive the required license test at your local motor vehicle department and will qualify you for an ‘M’ endorsement with a restriction of 3 wheels only.  The course may also earn you an insurance discount. While we will have loan trikes from Can-Am available for your use during training, you may bring your own 3-wheel motorcycle to utilize during the course.  Can-Am is working with us to register students for the course, including accepting payment for the class.
